Client objective
Incorporate a UK Limited Company and prepare it for a multi-provider banking stack: Wise Business, Airwallex, Stripe and a UK high-street backup.
Challenges
- Neither founder had a UK footprint or UK residency.
- Two previous EMI applications had been declined without clear reasons.
- The brand's Shopify site was live but lacked business-address, refund and shipping policy pages required by underwriting.
Advisory approach
- 1Reviewed the previous rejection patterns and identified inconsistent addresses and missing website content as the likely cause.
- 2Incorporated the UK company with a London registered office, virtual business address and matching website and invoicing footers.
- 3Rewrote the Shopify Terms, Refund and Shipping policies to Stripe and Airwallex underwriting standards.
- 4Prepared a written business narrative covering products, suppliers, expected turnover and target markets.
- 5Submitted Wise Business first, then Airwallex, then Stripe — spaced by 7 working days to keep each application clean.
Outcome
Wise Business and Airwallex both approved on first attempt. Stripe cleared underwriting within 3 working days. A UK high-street application is now the backup, not the primary route.
Key lessons
- Repeated EMI rejections almost always trace back to inconsistencies — not to the founder being non-resident.
- Website content is now part of banking underwriting. Founders underestimate this.
- Redundancy is real risk management. Every serious international operator runs at least two payment providers.
